Set up Dill with Clover

Import your categories, import your items, fill in ingredients once, then print. Most sites are printing the same day. Here is every step.

How it works, step by step

Import your categories

Open the Categories page in the web app and pull your Clover categories in first.

  1. 1.Top right, click Sync with Clover, then Import Data.
  2. 2.The Select Items window lists your Clover categories. Tick the ones you want.
  3. 3.Click Import. They appear on your Categories page.
Only categories you bring in here can hold items in the next step. Skip one now and its items will not import later.

Import your items

On the My Labels page, choose which categories to pull items from.

  1. 1.On My Labels, click Sync with Clover, then Import Data.
  2. 2.In 'Select categories to import data from', tick the categories whose items you want.
  3. 3.Click Continue. Your Clover items import as labels and appear in the list.
Items in a category you have not imported are skipped. That is not an error.

Pick a label type

Open an item from My Labels. Each label card shows its size and how many fields it needs.

  1. 1.Tap an item to open Item Details.
  2. 2.Choose Food to Go, Food to Go Landscape, Shelf, or Clover PPDS 5x5.
  3. 3.The form updates to just the fields that label prints.

Fill in what the label needs

  1. 1.Type ingredients heaviest first.
  2. 2.Tap Flag allergens to mark them in the text. They print in bold.
  3. 3.Set the Contains line and how long it keeps, in days or hours. Add a barcode if you print one.
  4. 4.Save the label. The item is now print ready on mobile.
A 2 day use by is 2 days from when the label prints, not from today.

Print on the mobile app

  1. 1.Tap Connect and pair your Bluetooth label printer.
  2. 2.Search by name or filter by category, then tap the item.
  3. 3.Pick a label format. Tap Change to switch anytime.
Use Scan to pull an item up by its barcode, or Template Selection to set a default format for many items at once.

Check the preview, then print

  1. 1.Adjust text size, the Contains and May contain lines, and the use by. The preview updates live.
  2. 2.Tap Print, or Quick Print to go straight to printing.
  3. 3.Enter the quantity and tap Yes.
The use by is worked out at the moment of printing. Every print with a use by is logged for traceability in your Safety monitor.

Keeping Dill and Clover in step

After you connect, you do not press anything for everyday changes. When your menu changes in Clover, Clover sends Dill an event, Dill fetches the latest version of that one item or category, and applies it.

  1. 1.Clover sends an event on every menu change. It carries an id, not the data.
  2. 2.Dill matches the Clover account to your Dill account and the right connection.
  3. 3.Dill reads that object back from Clover, so it always writes the current state rather than a stale copy.
  4. 4.The matching category or label is created, updated or removed.

Changes only flow Clover to Dill. Dill never writes back to your till.

Every Clover event is signed and verified before Dill acts on it.

Moving an item back will not restore its label. It returns as a new blank label after the next Import Data. The safe way to reorganize is to import the new category first, then move items into it.
A sync only refreshes name, category and price. Ingredients, allergens, use by and your template choice are never overwritten. Re-running a sync is safe. It compares, it does not pile up.

Common questions

Does Dill change anything in my Clover till?

No. Changes flow one way, Clover to Dill.

Do I have to share my Clover password?

No. You log in to Dill and the accounts are linked once.

What happens if I rename a category?

The name updates in Dill and your labels stay attached.

Will a sync wipe the ingredients I typed?

No. Sync only refreshes name, category and price.

Which printers work?

Brother Bluetooth label printers. Dill pairs with them directly from the mobile app.

Can one item print on more than one label size?

Yes. Pick the format each time you print, or set a default with Template Selection.
